Azriel
Azriel
Status: Available
Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat)
Species/Sex: Dog/Male

Description:  Call me Azriel (or Az for short)! I weigh around 50 pounds and I just turned one!   I had a bit of a rough start to life, until some nice people found me abandoned and took me in. Everything scared me at first – people, dogs, or being left alone. It didn’t take long though to learn that home is a safe place and that there’s so much to love in life. I adore playing with my foster brother! I have never met a toy I did not love passionately (though balls are #1), I crush hard on my foster people, and I also love mealtime, water bowls, finding ice in the winter, and snuggling with both humans and dogs. I used to stress out so much in car rides, now I love them (but keep the window up, I only like the wind in my face sprinting). I also love just laying close to my foster mom in the office.   I am potty trained and making amazing progress with my crate training. I am quickly learning what is appropriate indoor behavior, but I still need to be crated if no humans are around. For some reason I just love those shoes too much.   At night I sleep in the bedroom with my foster parents or wander off to my crate. I would love to spend all night in the human bed, but I am told that is by invitation only. I can also spend the night in the crate    I would really like to live in a house with another playful dog, as I have lots of energy and prefer having a companion, but I can also live in a single-dog home as long as you have enough time to play with me and find me a doggy friend. I would probably not do great in a house with cats. I really love children but would do best in a house with older kids, as I am still learning what is appropriate play with them (are they not puppies?).   Training has been the greatest thing for me! I love working with humans and am so quick to pick up new commands. I know “come”, “sit”, “down”, “heal”, “right”, “under” (middle), “hide” (reverse middle), “orbit”, and can “place” in the weirdest places my humans can think of. Honestly, the sky is the limit with me. I walk well on and off leash, but still have a strong prey drive, so if you have a backyard, a 6-ft fence is best. I still get overwhelmed by crowds and dogs I don’t know, so I require very slow calm introductions. BUT – even here I am making great progress.   I am looking for my forever human to love hard on, someone who will be patient and understand the importance of continuing my training, so I can grow into the best big-boy I can be. If you are looking for a lifetime of love, snuggles, kisses, and goofiness and want to meet me, please contact your adoption coordinator. If you do not yet have an adoption coordinator, please complete an adoption application at www.freedomgermanshepherdrescue.org I am being fostered in Jacksonville, NC.     Call me Azriel (or Az for short)! Bloom
Bloom
Status: Available
Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat)
Species/Sex: Dog/Female

Description:  Meet Bloom - Sprouting into your heart one tail wag at a time!  At just 5 months old and around 50 pounds, Bloom is a fresh-faced pup looking to grow roots in her forever home. Her past? A bit of a mystery (she’s keeping it pawsitively private), but her future? Bright, cuddly, and full of potential! This little lady is potty trained—well, mostly. She’s got the gist, but like any good plant, she’ll thrive with a little consistency and sunshine (aka treats). She’s not quite crate-trained yet, but give her a few minutes and she’ll settle down like a tulip at twilight. Bloom loves people—like, really loves people. She hasn’t met kids yet, but with her gentle demeanor  meeting new people, and proper introductions of course, we think she could be a great family flower. She's still a young pup, so she’s learning what kind of home she’ll need long-term, though her current foster family feels that she will need a family who is active and devoted to giving her the training and structure for her to thrive. Her current home has a fence, but it’s too soon to say if it’s a must-have for her forever digs.  She buds beautifully with her one-year-old canine foster sister—they zoom, they wrestle, they nap like synchronized snugglers. She’s also been living with a cat and, while curious, she’s easily redirected. (She’s a dog of pawsitive persuasion, after all.)  Now, here’s the thorn among the petals: Bloom gets nervous around new dogs and can be very vocal about it. She's not aggressive—just a little dramatic (think Broadway understudy who finally got her moment). With slow intros, patience, and continued socialization, she'll learn the world isn’t so scary after all. She knows how to “sit” and is working hard on mastering the rest of the pup curriculum—like not chewing everything that looks remotely edible (or not). She needs a home ready to guide her with love, patience, and maybe a chew toy or three. If you're looking for a goofy, affectionate, playful cuddlebug who's ready to blossom with the right guidance, Bloom could be your new best bud. Adopt her and let love take root. If you're interested an adding this little flower to your family, please contact your adoption coordinator. If you do not yet have an adoption coordinator, please complete an adoption application at www.freedomgermanshepherdrescue.org . Bloom is being fostered in Charlotte, NC.  Click for more information...

Bobby
Bobby
Status: Available
Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat)
Species/Sex: Dog/Male

Description:  Meet Bobby - or what I like to call him: Buddy. He is the best Buddy you could ever ask for. Who knew an 80 pound, furry weighted blanket would be so comforting. This guy had a really hard start to his young life. No one knows how he ended up being an emaciated stray but we are all so happy he is thriving and healthy now! Buddy loves extremely hard and is a big goof. He currently doesn’t have a yard to free roam in but would love one - as long as it is fenced. He started going to day care and making other furry friends. He has a high prey drive for squirrels so we don’t think he would be good with little animals. He loves everyone he meets but he doesn’t understand how large he actually is so may be too big for little kids. We visit his BFF Colby every night to get a treat and a few pets which he handsomely sits for. He needs some training as he will grab food off your plate or counter but hey, he came to us at 44 pounds and is still a puppy at 2 years old. He does wonderful walking on his leash and he and his foster mom walk about 6 miles a day. He has never met a patio he doesn’t like! His foster mom calls him a “Patio Prince” lol Everyone in the neighborhood knows him. He lays down and patiently waits for any crumbs to fall. Since his foster mom has had him he has never had to be in a crate, he free roams all day and has never had a potty accident. As long as he has a couch or bed to lay on he is a good boy. If you're interested in making Bobby your furever buddy, please contact your adoption coordinator. If you do not yet have an adoption coordinator, please complete an adoption application at www.freedomgermanshepherdrescue.org . Bobby is being fostered in Charlotte.  Click for more information...

Boo Boo
Boo Boo
Status: Available
Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat)
Species/Sex: Dog/Male

Description: Meet Boo Boo! Are you a fan of the 1958 cartoon classic Yogi Bear? My foster mom says I remind her of Boo Boo because of my big, bear-like paws— but those paws are just the beginning! They’re a perfect match for my even bigger heart. I’m a sweet, 45 pound, 5 month old, affectionate pup who loves people and enjoys making new dog friends. I also do well with smaller animals, including cats, though sometimes I get a little too playful for their liking. My foster home includes two German Shepherds and three cats, so I’m learning the ropes of coexisting with all kinds of furry companions. I have low to moderate energy. I want to be close to my humans—I’ll happily curl up at your feet, rest my head in your lap, or sleep in my own bed in your room at night. I’m crate-trained and actually love my crate; it’s my little safe space. I don’t need to be in it anymore, but I’d love to have one in my new home if possible! I'm housebroken and also sleep through the night with no accidents. I’m a curious pup, but I can be timid and cautious in new situations. Loud noises and sudden movements startle me, so I would do best in a quiet, consistent home where I can build confidence at my own pace. I absolutely adore stuffed animals and cozy, fluffy beds. I’m highly food-motivated, which makes me eager to learn—my foster mom has already started me on basic obedience training. Because of my sensitive nature, I wouldn’t do well in a home with young children; their energy and unpredictability can be overwhelming for me. I need a patient, understanding adopter who will give me the time and reassurance I need to feel safe and secure. If you’re looking for a loyal, loving companion and can provide a calm, stable environment, I could be the perfect match!   We recently learned that Boo is blind, but that doesn’t stop him from being a fully functioning puppy. The vet says he has a “congenital abnormality” where his optic nerve was improperly formed, thus rendering him unable to process vision. As a result, Boo will need a fenced in yard and a confident canine companion that he can shadow and use as a seeing eye dog.   Ready to make this sweet boy a part of your family? Contact your adoption coordinator. Don't have an adoption coordinator? Complete an adoption application at www.freedomgermanshepherdrescue.org. Boo is being fostered in Winston-Salem, NC. Brenda - Adoption Pending
Brenda - Adoption Pending
Status: Available
Breed: German Shepherd Dog / Mixed (medium coat)
Species/Sex: Dog/Female

Description:  Meet Brenda, a 6 year old, 58 pound, German Shepherd/Belgian Malinois mix, with a heart full of love, who is truly as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside. Brenda was wandering the streets as a stray, picked up by animal control, and found herself running out of time at the shelter due to an ear infection and a lack of cooperation with her doctors.  FGSR stepped in to get her out of the shelter and into a foster home where her true personality and genuine sweetness has been able to shine through while she was healing medically. Now that she is healthy and healed, Brenda is ready to be your BFFAE. Brenda’s loyalty is unparalleled. You won’t ever have to walk to the bathroom alone again with Brenda around! Brenda would probably sell her soul for a few rounds of fetch! Her foster home currently has a four foot high fence, which she doesn't attempt to challenge.  Her playful spirit keeps everyone around her entertained, and her sense of humor is infectious. She has a moderate energy level and is housebroken and crate trained. She is trusted to free roam in the house when no one is home and doesn't get into anything she's not supposed to, although she will help herself to food if it's left out.  She's incredibly smart, quickly picking up on commands and tricks. Bren’s exuberance can sometimes get the best of her, so she may need you to remind her of her manners from time to time - especially at meal time and with anything involving water (hoses and sprinklers are so much fun to her!) Brenda aims to please, though, so she is quick to correct herself! Despite the higher-energy nature of her breeds, Brenda is a pretty low-maintenance, go-with-the-flow girl. Brenda just really wants to spend her days by her person’s side- be it playing ball in the yard, “helping” you make dinner in the kitchen, napping on the couch on a rainy day, riding in the car/running errands, or a simple stroll through the neighborhood. She's a great listener, always there to lend an ear when you need someone to talk to! Brenda’s three doggie foster-siblings think she’s pretty great too! Brenda loves playing “tag” with them and takes corrections well. Bren is also kid friendly and has ignored the cats she has met at the vet.  Brenda's personality shines bright, and she's sure to bring joy to any home. Her loving nature, intelligence, and playful personality make her the perfect companion. Adopt Brenda by contacting your adoption coordinator and gain a loyal, loving friend for life. If you do not yet have an adoption coordinator, please complete an adoption application at www.freedomgermanshepherdrescue.org . Brenda is being fostered outside of Charlotte, NC.  Click for more information...

Chase
Chase
Status: Available
Breed: German Shepherd Dog / Belgian Shepherd Malinois / Mixed (medium coat)
Species/Sex: Dog/Male

Description:  Hi! My name is Chase, and I’m ‘On the Case’ just like Paw Patrol! I’m a German Shepherd/Belgian Malinois mix, approximately 4 years old, weigh roughly 50 pounds and shed minimally.  Have you seen my black coloring on the backs of my legs? I am incredibly handsome with unique coloring.  I am housebroken and crate trained, although I don’t need to be crated. I sleep and live freely in my foster home with no issues or accidents. I would, however, take short naps in one as needed. I LOVE stuffed animals, but I will chew my stuffies. Ball? Oh yeah, that’s my favorite. The bigger the better. Bonus if they’re orange! I am a high-energy boy requiring a 6 foot fenced-in yard due to my prey drive and need for speed. I am not suitable with cats, chickens, or small dogs. Due to my high-energy, I would love to have a furry sibling who likes to play - preferably one who loves a good ‘heckin’ chase’ and willingly shares space, snacks, and their human's attention. I could, however, be happy being the only dog with an active family who works from home. I LOVE my humans. I want to be by your side at every moment, which gives me my nickname: Velcro. Wherever you go, I go!  While I’m small in stature, I can be a bit of a bullet. Although I am kid-friendly, I would do best in a home with older children and may not be best around elderly folks, as I struggle a bit with spatial awareness. I’ve never met a stranger, so I can’t tell the difference! I love people coming over and greeting all guests with excitement. My love for people makes me great at the vet. My technicians always compliment me!  I was new to a leash when I came to my foster family, but I quickly learned leash manners and now love to go on walks and hikes. When my leash comes out, I am super excited! I am remarkably intelligent and highly trainable and would benefit from an owner with GSD experience who is willing to give me a job to do. I am highly food motivated and wag my tail while I eat and take treats incredibly gently. I love to try new snacks and find fruits and veggies to be my all-time favorites. Kongs?! Oh yeah, I love those too. Exercising my brain is equally important, and I find the puzzle of it all extremely fascinating.  I ride great in the car and like to travel, settling down quickly after I look out the window for a bit. I love golf carts and boats, and I discovered I am a good swimmer too! I am a dream to bathe and allow my foster family to wipe my feet before coming inside. I hardly bark out the window but do when I’m encouraging my furry sibling or friends to play.  A single-story home is best for me. I am not too confident on wood floors and uncomfortable with interior stairs. I am a sensitive soul. I remember traumatic events of slipping on floors or falling, so carpet would make me happy and extra confident! If you are looking for a highly intelligent, smaller-stature German Shepherd, who loves his people and has lots of excitement for activities with loyalty galore, I’m your guy! If you can offer me my furever home, please contact your adoption coordinator. If you do not have an adoption coordinator yet, please complete an adoption application at  www.freedomgermanshepherdrescue.org . I am being fostered in Raleigh, NC. Click for more information...

Clarissa
Clarissa
Status: Available
Breed: German Shepherd Dog / Labrador Retriever / Mixed (medium coat)
Species/Sex: Dog/Female

Description:  Looking for a gentle soul with a waggy tail and a love for couch cuddles? Look no further – Clarissa is your girl! This 2–3-year-old shepherd/lab mix weighs in at a perfect 45 pounds and is basically a professional snuggler with a PhD in Sweetness. She’s dog, cat, and kid approved, so your whole crew is welcome in her fan club! Clarissa is a little shy at first (think introvert at a party—hanging out near the snack table), but give her a little time and a lot of love, and she’ll blossom into your best buddy. She’s crate and potty trained, walks great on a leash, and has a serious passion for chew bones and tasty treats. Bonus: she’s highly treat-motivated, which makes training a breeze and snack time a joy. Clarissa thrives with a confident canine companion—another dog in the home would make her feel extra safe and snuggly. Loud noises can make her nervous, so a patient, and semi-calm household (maybe with some chill music and extra belly rubs) would be just perfect. A fenced yard is a plus but not a deal-breaker—she’s more about the vibes and less about the square footage.  Think you're ready to meet your new fuzzy BFF? Clarissa's ready to steal your heart… she just might need a treat or two first. If you're interested in adding Clarissa to your family, please contact your adoption coordinator. If you do not yet have an adoption coordinator, please complete an adoption application at www.freedomgermanshepherdrescue.org . Clarissa is being fostered outside of Raleigh, NC. Dobby
Dobby
Status: Available
Breed: German Shepherd Dog / Mixed (medium coat)
Species/Sex: Dog/Male

Description:  Dobby is a 90-pound, nine-year-old German Shepherd that is sweet and loving to every person he meets. Dobby is dog friendly with proper introductions and is happy lounging at home and soaking up the company of his favorite humans - whether it's curling up nearby while you relax or keeping a watchful eye on the world from a cozy spot. Dobby is house trained and comfortable in a crate but has had limited time in a crate while he has been with his foster, as he is a calm, non-destructive boy. Dobby has a low to moderate energy level, making him a great fit for a home that enjoys playtime and relaxation. He adores people, including kids. Dobby does not react to squirrels or cats, and has not counter surfed or chewed on inappropriate items while with his foster. Dobby wants to greet dogs and people he meets on his walk, which can lead to him pulling on the leash.  Dobby loves to ride in cars. He will sit by the door and wait for you to open it. Once inside, he will lie down in the back seat and travel quietly. He would enjoy having a fenced yard to roam and explore. Being a senior gentleman, a 4 foot fence is tall enough. With proper exercise, Dobby would do fine without a fenced yard as long as he is supervised so he doesn’t get curious and wander off. Overall, Dobby is a splendid example of everything there is to love about German Shepards: attentive, loving and smart; the ultimate sidekick. If you are interested in meeting this sweet gentleman, please reach out to your adoption coordinator.  If you don’t have an adoption coordinator, please complete an application at www.freedomgermanshepherdrescue.organization. Dobby is being fostered outside of Wilmington, NC. Click for more information...

Dutchess
Dutchess
Status: Available
Breed: German Shepherd Dog / Mixed (medium coat)
Species/Sex: Dog/Female

Description:  Greetings, everyone! My name is Dutchess and I'm a 4 year old, 50 pound German Shepherd who is ready to find her furever family! After I was surrendered to the shelter because my former owner could no longer care for me, the nice people at Freedom German Shepherd Rescue took me in. I am housebroken, crate trained and love playing with other dogs. When other dogs don't like me, I just squeal and roll over to show that I am not a threat. I haven’t met any cats or small children yet, so I don't know how I feel about them. I am a little skittish when meeting new people and will scamper away until I get comfortable. Want to know the secret to making me feel more comfortable? Treats - and lots of them! I am a chow hound, if I do say so myself. My foster mom says that I don't have one mean bone in my body. I will just shower you with kisses! A home with an at least 4 foot high fence would be best for me. Another fun fact about me is that I love shoes. I don't chew on them but I like to collect them. When I really like you, I will bring them to you. If you are ready to make me a part of your family, please contact your adoption coordinator. If you do not yet have an adoption coordinator, please complete an adoption application at www.freedomgermanshepherdrescue.org . I am being fostered outside of Fayetteville, NC. Jasper
Jasper
Status: Available
Breed: German Shepherd Dog / Mixed (medium coat)
Species/Sex: Dog/Male

Description:  Commander Jasper: The 4 year old, Submarine Shepherd Extraordinaire! Before diving into my tale, picture a suave shepherd who, if he tried, could double as a submarine. That's right—submarine meets dog. My foster dad claims I'm a spitting image, especially when I embark on covert missions under the bed. Seen too many action movies? Guilty. My backstory reads like an epic quest: I once roamed the streets, suitcase of hidden tricks in tow (okay, not really, but imagine if dogs had suitcases!). When I landed in my foster haven, out came my Harvard-level doggy skills: 'sit,' 'stay,' and the very prestigious 'shake.' But then, Dad introduced 'wait' and the magical 'go potty.' I'm basically a prodigy. Kiddos? The universe's gift to dogs! Bursting with giggles and endless fun, they're my kind of play coordinators. Now, speaking of play, my fur-bro and I are pioneers of "keep away." Think soccer, but furrier and cuter. But my true superpower? The post-play snuggle session. I offer, hands down, the best cuddles this side of Raleigh. Now, while I'm mostly flawless (I mean, look at this bio, right?), my leash manners are...a work in progress. Picture this: a world so exciting that I occasionally forget the leash and the human attached to it. Oops. And cats? I'm convinced they're Earth's version of UFOs—utterly fascinating and a tad mysterious. Tennis balls and I? It's an epic saga. Every ball meets its brave, heroic end in our play sessions. But in their short life, they knew joy, purpose, and the inside of my mouth. What more could a tennis ball want? In a nutshell: I'm a whirlwind of energy, a dash of playful mischief, and a huge dollop of love. My foster humans say I'm pretty special, and who am I to argue? If you think your life needs a submarine-commanding, monster-hunting, top-tier snuggler, hit me up! Dive into an application at www.freedomgermanshepherdrescue.org. Click for more information...

Loki
Loki
Status: Available
Breed: German Shepherd Dog / Mixed (medium coat)
Species/Sex: Dog/Male

Description:  Meet Loki – The Mischief Maker with a Heart of Gold!   Just like the legendary trickster god, Loki is full of charm, personality, and a little bit of mischief—but only the lovable kind! This 75-pound, seven-year-old German Shepherd mix is as majestic as he is playful, with a sleek black coat and just a touch of white on his chest and feet, like a celestial mark of destiny.   Loki enjoys his moments of excitement—trotting with purpose, playing with his favorite toys, and romping with other dogs (sometimes quite vocally!). But don’t let his playful side fool you—Loki is just as happy lounging at home and soaking up the company of his favorite humans. Whether it’s curling up nearby while you relax or keeping a watchful eye on the world from a cozy spot, Loki knows how to balance fun with downtime. He’s crate trained, house trained, and has a moderate energy level, making him a great fit for a home that enjoys both playtime and relaxation. He adores children, though his enthusiasm might be a bit much for the tiniest ones, as his excitement sometimes sends him bouncing like he’s got springs for feet. A secure 6-foot fence is a must for this high-flying trickster! As for cats? Loki’s grand adventures require a worthy companion, and he finds feline beings… lacking in such qualifications. Loki is more than just a dog—he’s a legend in the making. He’s ready to find his forever realm, where he can bestow endless companionship, affection, and just the right amount of playful antics upon his lucky humans. If you’re looking for a loyal, fun-loving sidekick who enjoys both activity and relaxation, Loki is ready for his next great adventure—with you!   Will you be the hero to claim this devoted and charming companion? If so, please contact your adoption coordinator. If you do not have an adoption coordinator, please complete an adoption application at www.freedomgermanshepherdrescue.org . Loki is being fostered in Charlotte, NC. Click for more information...

Mavis
Mavis
Status: Available
Breed: German Shepherd Dog / Mixed (medium coat)
Species/Sex: Dog/Female

Description:  Woof woof! Hi there! I'm Mavis. I'm a fluffy bundle of energy, and I'm about a year old and 51 pounds! That's like, a whole seven years in human years, I think. I'm not really sure, I can't count that high yet. I'm a shepherd mix, which means I'm super smart and love to run and play. My favorite thing in the whole world is zooming and playing with my foster family.  I'm so fast!  I am still considered medium energy because, although I like to run and play sometimes, I can also still chill with my humans and settle nicely.  I am apartment appropriate as long as someone will play with me to get my energy out. I don't need to have a fenced in yard either, but my leash manners need some work; I will pull because I am so thrilled about meeting new people and other dogs. I love meeting new doggy friends! Everyone is my friend! Big dogs, little dogs, fluffy dogs, wrinkly dogs – I love them all! We sniff each other's butts and then chase each other around until we're all panting. It's the best! While it would be great to have another dog in the home to play with, I can pretty independent so having a doggie friend is not required. I also really love to snuggle up on the couch when I've got all of my zoomies out. I'm still learning about personal space, but I just can't help but show everyone my love! Some humans have these tiny humans they call "kids". They're pretty cool! They throw balls for me and give the best ear scratches. Sometimes they hug me really tight, and I try to lick their faces to show them I love them too. But sometimes, my humans tell me I'm being "too close" and need to "give them space". I don't really get what that means, but I'm trying to learn. I'm still learning all sorts of things. I haven't met any cats yet but my foster dad thinks I would probably be okay with them as long as they correct me when I show interest in them. My foster humans say I'm a good girl, even when I make mistakes. I love them so much, and I can't wait to see what adventures are in store for me! While I am housebroken, I get so excited meeting new people that I may accidentally tinkle a little. I'm also crate trained, so there's that. If you'd like to make me a member of your family, please contact your adoption coordinator. If you do not yet have an adoption coordinator, please complete an adoption application at www.freedomgermanshepherdrescue.org . I am being fostered outside of Charlotte, NC.  Click for more information...

Nadine
Nadine
Status: Available
Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat)
Species/Sex: Dog/Female

Description:  Meet Nadine – Sweet, Smart, and Ready to Love! Say hello to Nadine, a 4 year-old, 67 pound sweetheart who’s equal parts loving, loyal, and clever. This beautiful girl has a big heart and is looking for a forever home where she can be someone’s constant companion. Nadine is happiest when she’s with her people — she loves car rides, going for walks, and just being part of the action. She’s picking up basic commands like “sit,” “stay,” and “lay down,” and though she has a bit of a stubborn streak, she’s a quick learner when motivated. While she is housebroken, crate training is a work in progress — she’ll go in easily but isn’t a huge fan of staying there long-term.  She has a high energy level and would be happiest in an active home where she can get plenty of exercise and mental stimulation. A 6 foot fenced-in yard would be ideal so she can safely enjoy the outdoors and burn off some of that energy.  Nadine thrives on close companionship. She’ll do best in a home where someone is around more often than not, especially while she continues to build trust and security, or a home that has another confident dog. Nadine will need proper introductions when meeting other dogs although she’s not a fan of small dogs.  She’s curious about other animals like cats, chickens and rabbits — she enjoys watching them but hasn’t interacted closely with them yet, so supervision is key.  Nadine is also curious about children when we walk by them, but we haven’t had the chance to see how she interacts up close. She definitely loves people and enjoys their company — she just wants to be part of the family. If you’re looking for a loyal best friend who will shower you with affection and keep life exciting, Nadine might just be your girl. She’s ready for her second chance and can’t wait to meet the person who will give her the love and stability she deserves. Interested in making Nadine part of your family? Contact your adoption coordinator. If you do not yet have an adoption coordinator, please complete an adoption application at www.freedomgermanshepherdrescue.org . Breed: Belgian Shepherd Malinois / German Shepherd Dog / Mixed (medium coat)
Species/Sex: Dog/Male

Description:  Meet Ruger, an 8-year-old, 100 pound Belgian Malinois with a heart of gold, looking for a fresh start in life. Unfortunately, Ruger was surrendered back to Freedom German Shepherd Rescue after six years due to behavioral challenges that stemmed from a lack of proper care. When he first arrived at his new foster home, it was clear he had been failed by humans—overweight and struggling to walk even a short distance. It broke my heart to see him in such a state. At Wild Child Dog Training, we've been committed to helping Ruger shed those extra pounds and build up his strength and endurance. After a month of dedicated work, we’ve seen a remarkable transformation, and I can confidently say that Ruger is ready for his own place!   Despite his past, Ruger has proven to be a sweet and eager learner. He deserves a loving adopter who can help him enjoy his senior years. Rescues are overflowing, and Ruger’s time is of the essence; he needs a place to call home to enjoy his golden years. A little about Ruger: he is indifferent towards kids, but would do better in a home with older children, gets along well with female dogs, and could potentially bond with male dogs given the right introduction. He previously lived with a cat and showed no issues, according to his previous adopter, and he seems uninterested in my birds. He is also housebroken and crate trained and is currently taking meds for his thyroid. It’s essential for Ruger’s new adopter to understand the energy needs of a Malinois. He is intelligent and thrives when given purpose and clear boundaries. Ruger does not require a fenced in yard because he walks well on a leash, has off-leash recall, loves to swim, and knows commands like sit and down. If you can offer Ruger his forever home, please reach out to your adoption coordinator. If you do not yet have an adoption coordinator, please complete an adoption application at www.freedomgermanshepherdrescue.org . Ruger is being fostered outside of Jacksonville, NC.  Click for more information...

Sami
Sami
Status: Available
Breed: German Shepherd Dog / Mixed
Species/Sex: Dog/Female

Description: Hello everyone, my name is Sami! I am a German Shepherd who is approximately 5 years young and weigh 69 pounds! My previous family could no longer care for me, so I was surrendered to the shelter. Freedom German Shepherd Rescue scooped me up to help get me well and find my forever home. I love my new foster home, and I have very quickly adjusted to a new routine.  I am housebroken and crate trained. I have so many things that I enjoy doing! Some of my favorite things are training, taking long walks, going to Lowe’s, spending time with and meeting new people, and eating “pup cups”.  My all-time favorite thing to do is going for car rides! I am such a good car rider that my foster mom takes me to run errands with her.  My favorite place to go, other than Starbucks, is the local pharmacy because the nice people who work there give me treats. I know as soon as we pull up where we are, and I immediately start “talking” to the nice lady who works behind the counter. Since I love to take walks and go on car rides, I hope I can find a furever family who will take me places with them. I am so well-behaved you will not have any problems with me.  I already have good manners and am extremely smart.  I am doggie and cat friendly and another one of my favorite things is trying to eat my feline foster sister, Gracie’s, food. My foster mom must keep the cat food off the floor, so I won’t steal snacks. I am also good with children! Like I said before, I love to meet new people and give people all the love I can. I am extremely friendly and have never meet a stranger. I love when the doorbell rings and I can run to the door to greet our new visitors.  I am not an extremely active doggie but I would be up for outdoor adventures. I am not a jumper so a four-foot fence will be just fine for me. I sometimes play with toys and my favorite game to play is tug of war. If you are interested in meeting me, please reach out to your adoption coordinator. If you don’t have an adoption coordinator, please complete an application at www.freedomgermanshepherdrescue.org. I am being fostered near Greenville, NC and I will be the greatest addition to your family! Click for more information...

Sargeant
Sargeant
Status: Available
Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat)
Species/Sex: Dog/Male

Description: Hi, my name is Sargeant! I am a handsome 75lb, 3 year old German Shepherd boy. My previous owner unfortunately didn't have time for me because he worked a lot, so he asked Freedom to help me find a new furever home. My two favorite things to do are play keep away with a ball and go on car rides. When I'm not doing those things, I love snuggling until I fall asleep. I really enjoy going on walks, and just running around being silly. I know some basic commands like sit, stay, down and come. I can also shake with both paws and when you tell me to go to my kennel, I will. I am housebroken but I'm not a huge fan of the crate. That's okay, though, because I can be fully trusted to free roam the house without getting into things I'm not supposed to. I get very excited when I first meet people and will jump, play nip and try to knock them over, but once I calm down and get used to them, I stop doing it. A few notes from Sarge's foster mom: Sarge would do best with an active individual who has the time for him and is willing to continue to work on his training/obedience. He also would do great with someone who doesn't mind getting Sarge kisses! Since I've had him he's done well with other dogs. Sarge will need an experienced owner since he has laser focus and will need help with impulse control. If you would like to add Sarge to your family, please reach out to your adoption coordinator. If you do not yet have an adoption coordinator, please complete an adoption application at www.freedomgermanshepherdrescue.org Click for more information...

Stella
Stella
Status: Available
Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat)
Species/Sex: Dog/Female

Description: Meet Stella!   Stella is a sweet five year old, 55lb girl who loves to be with her people. She is down for going on adventures, so she would be a great fit for a family who likes to get out and see what the world has to offer. Stella is also perfectly content with entertaining herself while sniffing around/enjoying the back yard. Her foster mom requires Stella go to a home with a fenced in yard for her to play in. She loves to learn new tricks/training, so a confident, shepherd savvy family who would continue to work with her is ideal. She is house trained, crate trained and does fairly well on the leash and still working on leash-walk etiquette. She gets along with other laid back dogs as long as she’s able to be properly introduced.   Stella would prefer to be the only furry family member, but would also likely do well with another laid back, more submissive dog.   She would also be best suited for a kid and cat free home.   Stella is being fostered near Fayetteville, NC. If you would like to her to your family, please contact your adoption coordinator Or complete an application at www.freedomgermanshepherdrescue.org.     Click for more information...

Swayze
Swayze
Status: Available
Breed: German Shepherd Dog / Mixed (medium coat)
Species/Sex: Dog/Male

Description:  Hey guys, do you need more snuggles? Well I am Swayze and I'm here to help! I'm a professional snugglebug and have appointments available from now til infinity! I'm a very sweet, cute little baby boy of around 4 months that weighs 26 pounds. I am very confident, intelligent, and active and I need an active family and a fenced in yard that is at least four feet tall. I'm a brave boy too and will be protective when I get big. This means I need a family who will continue to train me and provide boundaries so that I grow up to be the best boy I can be. I get along great with my fur foster siblings. I like to fling my tiny self at them, WWF- style. I would be fine being an only dog or in a family with another confident and playful dog. I have foster cat siblings and I will chase them sometimes and ignore them at other times, so I would be fine with a dog-savvy cat. I'm still pretty mouthy, so would do best with older kids right now. I am getting pretty good at house training, just need to go out frequently. I know how to sit, to go in my crate for dinner, and walk pretty well on leash. I'm going to be a superstar best friend for someone! If you think it might be you, contact your adoption coordinator!  If you do not yet have an adoption coordinator please complete an application at  www.freedomgermanshepherdrescue.org.   I am being fostered near Raleigh, NC.    Click for more information...

Taz
Taz
Status: Available
Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat)
Species/Sex: Dog/Male

Description:  Meet Taz!  He’s goofy and sweet with a little mischief all mixed into an almost 3 year old, 71 pound shepherd with moderate (at times high) energy level.  This guy just wants love and to be part of a pack.  He will be your shadow following you around the house.  He loves pets and belly rubs, but is content to just be wherever his human is.  Once Taz sees you're committed, he loves hard.  Taz is housebroken and has been working on basic commands and focusing. He is very bright and just needs consistent training and patience.  He enjoys long walks and any kind of adventure.  Again, he just wants to be with you.  He really does not like being left behind.  If he does have to stay home, he must be crated. His ideal home would not leave him crated any more than 6 hours in a day.  Taz has found comfort with his fur foster brother and would enjoy a companion, especially for playing; however, he would be okay as an only dog. He does not currently have a fenced yard, but would love one (although the fence must be at least 6 feet because he has impressive jumping skills).  He has a high prey drive so guessing he would do best in a home with no cats.  Taz is also a darling with children of all ages.  Interested in making Taz a part of your family? Please contact your adoption coordinator. If you do not yet have an adoption coordinator, please complete an adoption application at www.freedomgermanshepherdrescue.org . Taz is being fostered in Southern Pines, NC.  Click for more information...

Tina
Tina
Status: Available
Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat)
Species/Sex: Dog/Female

Description:  Hi, my name is Tina and I am a smaller German Shepherd weighing 37 pounds. I’m between 2 and 3 years old, very sweet and an energetic ball of joy. I love to play with my older foster brothers, both German Shepherds. We play tug of war with toys around the house or play with each other when no one is looking. My foster sister Miss Kitty and I love sunbathing, and people watching on the back porch. I do love chasing her, playing, but sometimes she doesn’t let me play too hard. I had a rough start when I first arrived at my foster home. I had to have a broken left elbow surgically repaired and may need to have hip surgery in the future from a previous accident. Even with all these challenges, I have been a very active girl, even with the cone of shame on. I’m good with all dogs, but prefer the larger ones, I’m playful with cats and love all humans, even toddlers.  I love pets and I enjoy getting my pets over my foster siblings because I'm the smallest of the crew. I will bark to make you aware that someone is at the door or walking past the house.  I sound mean, but it’s only a front.  I just can’t wait to have you closer. My foster dad has been working with me on a few things like sitting and laying down and also, timeout. I don’t mind being in the crate, but I may need a little nudge to go in, but will relax once in there.  Sometimes, I just put myself in there for some rest and relaxation. I'm also housebroken. I am very afraid of thunder and can hear it miles away.  I’m scared, but not destructive, and will just find a nice dark corner in the room until it passes. Foster dad tried the thunder jacket on me, but I was still really scared.  I’m also starting to get more leash walks and still learning how to walk nicely. My foster dad thinks a harness will help. It would be best if I had a fenced in yard of my own, but because of my size a four foot tall one would suffice. If you are ready to make me a part of your family, please contact your adoption coordinator. If you do not yet have an adoption coordinator, please complete an adoption application at   www.freedomgermanshepherdrescue.org .I am being fostered outside of Charlotte. Tyson
Tyson
Status: Available
Breed: German Shepherd Dog / Mixed
Species/Sex: Dog/Male

Description:  Meet Tyson, our 5 year-old, 80 pound German Shepherd!   According to Wikipedia, Tyson is a male given name of old French origin meaning 'high-spirited', 'fire'.  I am not sure who named him but the name fits him. Tyson is full of energy and has the constant desire to play. As a result, he will need a home with a six foot fence. He will give you the toy only after he circles you a few times and then sits for you to throw it, and will return.... again and again. If you don't want to throw it, he will prance around the yard with it in his mouth. Tyson will play by himself with a hard, large Jolly ball as long as you let him. Soft stuffies and squeekees do not stand a chance. Tyson willingly and politely accepts treats. He will sit for meals and does not mind human touches while eating. He pulls on leash and enjoys car rides. He does well with other dogs and currently lives with a female German Shepherd. He has not met any cats yet. Tyson is not aware of his size so he would do best in a home with older children. Tyson is crate trained and housebroken. If you're ready to make Tyson a part of your family, please contact your adoption coordinator. If you do not yet have an adoption coordinator, please complete an adoption application at www.freedomgermanshepherdrescue.org . Uncle Sam
Uncle Sam
Status: Available
Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat)
Species/Sex: Dog/Male

Description: I am Uncle Sam, and if I may say so myself, a gorgeous almost five year old, 98 pound, sable boy. I am looking for an adopter that likes to play ball and get slimed with kisses. I do very well with obedience commands and am learning to trust people. I am great with women but need a little time, space and play to be comfortable around men.I need an experienced handler to help me be my best self, as I’m very protective of my person and their property. I very much want a forever home that will continue my training and give me fun jobs to do. I have a face that will melt your heart and it makes me so happy to get attention! I don’t mind being left alone, in fact I do well out of the crate and I’m housebroken. I am not food driven, but will do anything for a ball!   I am socially awkward with other dogs and will need a slow, proper introduction. I’ve also been around chickens, and do not react. My ideal home would be an active one with minimal visitors and no other dogs, preferably with you being an experienced trainer, or someone who will continue to work with a behavioral trainer that is already in place prior to adoption. If you are interested in making me a part of your family, please reach out to your adoption coordinator. If you do not have an adoption coordinator, please complete an adoption application at www.freedomgermanshepherdrescue.org. I am being fostered near Fayetteville.   Click for more information...
