Thank you so much for opening your heart and home to a rescued dog!  Foster homes are the life blood of our organization. To help ensure the experience is the best one possible for you, the rescue and the foster dogs, we have some basic guidelines outlined below.  Please read each section carefully.  Your signature at the end of this document is a verification that you understand and will abide by the terms and conditions set forth below by Freedom German Shepherd Rescue.

Freedom German Shepherd Rescue agrees to the following:

  • The dog will arrive to the foster home with any and all shelter/vet paperwork that came with the dog.
  • If the dog does not arrive with the following, it will be mailed to the foster home: adoption folder, collar and collar tag.
  • A coordinator will be available to assist the foster parent with any questions the foster parent may have as well as approve vetting and other necessary medical treatments.
  • Freedom German Shepherd Rescue will schedule and pay for all approved medical treatments to include, but not limited to, annual vaccinations, alteration surgery, heartworm testing and treatment, fecal exams and deworming at a Freedom German Shepherd Rescue approved vet.
    • Please note that the rescue will not pay for unauthorized/unapproved expenses and/or any treatments performed at an unapproved veterinarian.
  • The rescue will supply the foster home with food, a crate, approved medical care and monthly preventatives unless the foster home chooses to donate any of those items.

Foster home agrees to the following:

  • I am fostering the dog for Freedom German Shepherd Rescue until the dog is cleared for adoption. At that point, I agree to adopt the dog. I will submit the adoption contract and pay the $350 adoption fee.
  • I understand that the dog is the property of Freedom German Shepherd Rescue until cleared for adoption.
  • To obey all federal, state and local laws regarding animal ownership.
  • To not house the dog where pets are legally not allowed.
  • To provide the dog with basic daily needs to include food, clean water, shelter, exercise and monthly preventatives.
  • To not leave the dog outside unattended.
  • To obtain approval for all medical treatments from the designated Freedom German Shepherd Rescue representative and use only Freedom German Shepherd Rescue approved veterinarians when available, unless otherwise agreed upon.
  • To take the dog, or arrange to have the dog taken, to scheduled veterinarian appointments and events, when possible.  Foster parents are asked to be on time and let the Freedom German Shepherd Rescue designee know when an appointment needs to be canceled or rescheduled.
  • To only provide treatments/medications approved by Freedom German Shepherd Rescue.
  • To maintain the dog’s vet records.
  • To notify the Freedom German Shepherd Rescue designee immediately should the decision be made to not adopt the foster dog. However, the foster parent will continue to foster the dog until cleared for adoption and can be adopted out to a qualified, approved applicant.

Via my signature below, I certify:

  • That I am 18 years of age or older.
  • That I have read and understand the above terms and conditions for fostering for Freedom German Shepherd Rescue.  I also understand that if I am found in violation of any of these conditions, I may be asked to return my foster dog to the rescue.  If I am found to be in violation of this foster contract and the animal needs to be removed from my home, I will allow a representative of Freedom German Shepherd Rescue to remove the animal from my premises and will not pursue legal action as a result.  The animal will need to be returned/reclaimed within 48 hours of being notified.
  • That I will hold Freedom German Shepherd Rescue and its agents harmless in any incident as a result of fostering a dog.   “Incident” refers to any damage or injury caused by the foster dog to the foster home and or its residents and any other person that the dog comes in contact with while in my care.  I understand that this means that I will not seek damages, to include but not limited to judgments, claims, attorney fees, fines, costs and or expenses, as the result of any and all incidents.  I also agree to waive any benefits provided by the state outside of the coverage of this foster contract.

I understand that I am assuming full responsibility for the dog in my foster care and assume all risks associated with fostering for Freedom German Shepherd Rescue to include but not limited to injury to pets, property and people.
