Freedom German Shepherd Rescue agrees to the following:

  • A coordinator will be available to assist the foster parent with any questions the foster parent may have as well as approve vetting and other necessary medical treatments.
  • Freedom German Shepherd Rescue will schedule and pay for all approved medical treatments to include, but not limited to, annual vaccinations, alteration surgery, heartworm testing and treatment, fecal exams and deworming at a Freedom German Shepherd Rescue approved vet.
    • Please note that the rescue will not pay for unauthorized/unapproved expenses and/or any treatments performed at an unapproved veterinarian.
    • The rescue will supply the foster home with food, a crate, approved medical care and monthly preventatives unless the foster home chooses to donate any of those items.

Foster home agrees to the following:

  • I am fostering the dog for Freedom German Shepherd Rescue until a permanent home is found and the dog will be unable to be moved to another foster home for any reason.
  • I understand that the dog is the property of Freedom German Shepherd Rescue.
  • To obey all federal, state and local laws regarding animal ownership.
  • To not house the dog where pets are legally not allowed.
  • To provide the dog with basic daily needs to include food, clean water, shelter, exercise and monthly preventatives.
  • To not leave the dog outside unattended.
  • To obtain approval for all medical treatments from the designated Freedom German Shepherd Rescue representative and use only Freedom German Shepherd Rescue approved veterinarians when available, unless otherwise agreed upon.
  • To take the dog, or arrange to have the dog taken, to scheduled veterinarian appointments and events, when possible.  Foster parents are asked to be on time and let the Freedom German Shepherd Rescue designee know when an appointment needs to be canceled or rescheduled.
  • To only provide treatments/medications approved by Freedom German Shepherd Rescue.
  • To take the dog, or arrange to have the dog taken, to rescue sponsored events.
  • To maintain the dog’s vet records and pass them on to the adoptive family.
  • To only adopt the dog out to prescreened, Freedom German Shepherd Rescue approved adopters.  Should the foster home decide to adopt his/her foster dog, Freedom German Shepherd Rescue must be notified prior to the dog being made available for adoption.  Dogs typically become available within two weeks of reaching the foster home unless the dog has a medical issue which requires treatment before being able to be adopted.
  • To meet with and communicate openly and honestly about the dog with potential adopters.  Any known debilitating medical and/or behavioral issues must be noted on the adoption contract.  Training, if deemed necessary for the dog, may also be written into the adoption contract.
  • To complete all contracts and Freedom German Shepherd Rescue documents as noted in the adoption folder, collect the adoption fee at time of adoption and send all required documents to Freedom German Shepherd Rescue once the adoption is finalized.  The standard trial period is two weeks.  Any deviation from the two week trial period must be discussed with the Freedom German Shepherd Rescue designee prior to the completion of the adoption contract.  Should an unaltered animal be adopted, a deadline for alteration surgery completion must be noted on the adoption contract.  This date is typically on or before when the animal turns seven months old.
  • If the dog is returned to Freedom German Shepherd Rescue at any point during or after the trial period, the dog will be returned to me and I will be responsible for fostering the dog until another adoptive home is found.
