Learn more about the German Shepherd Dog. Hello world, meet Ziggy! A gorgeous 2 year old, 63 pound boy with so much love to give. His foster fam says it’s hard to decide what their favorite thing about him is… but if they HAD to, it would be how sweet and loving he is to every single person he meets, as soon as he meets them. As much as he loves his people, he will need proper introductions when meeting other dogs. Some of his funny quirks include howling at sirens that go by (it is adorable), and his absolute passion for chewing on bones… for hours. He’s a great listener who comes often when called and is well on his way to having great recall. He has moderate energy. After a solid walk or run or some playtime outside, he's ready to settle down and snooze. Speaking of, he is quite good on leash already and has shown great progress on not pulling while on leash. He has loved all of the children he has met so far. Traveling with Ziggy is a breeze; he's a pro at car rides and settles down comfortably in the backseat. He's crate trained, making him a pleasure to have indoors, too. With a treat, he happily goes into his crate and settles down for the night. While Ziggy is quite a gentleman, he's still working on some manners, like learning what is chewable and what isn't (sorry, shoes!), and barking at other dogs while on walks, likely out of protection for his people. He would also do best with someone with a privacy fence or a fenced in yard that doesn’t connect to another yard with dogs as he has shown some reactivity and protective tendencies over this; something working with a trainer would help with for sure. While a fenced-in yard would be ideal for Ziggy to roam and explore, he's adaptable, and with the proper exercise would be fine without one. He would do well with someone who establishes clear and consistent boundaries. However, his willingness to please and eagerness to learn make him a joy to train. With your love and guidance, he'll surely thrive. All in all, he is a great example of everything there is to love about German Shepherds: attentive, loving, protective, and smart. The ultimate sidekick. If you're ready for a loyal, trainable, and affectionate companion that is Ziggy, Contact your adoption coordinator. If you do not yet have an adoption coordinator, please complete an adoption application at www.freedomgermanshepherdrescue.org . Ziggy is being fostered outside of Charlotte, NC.
