German Shepherd Dog / Mixed : : Male (neutered)
Learn more about the German Shepherd Dog. Meet Keller: Keller is a 50 pound, two year old German Shepherd mix. Keller is one of the sweetest, most gentle dogs. He was found as a stray and the awesome people at Freedom rescued him from the shelter. He has taken his time opening up to his foster family, building confidence and trust, and has been THRIVING with a routine. He LOVES cuddles and treats, and is becoming more comfortable in a crate. His foster parents have let him be out and about when they are asleep or leave the house, and he has been an angel – sleeps and plays in his bed. He is completely housebroken and will let you know when he needs to go out. As much as he loves being near his humans, he shows NO signs of separation anxiety when left by himself. Keller is very energetic and loves going on walks, and does a goofy little dance each time he sees his foster mom get his leash and put on her shoes. His foster family is working on socializing him by taking him to outdoor bars and restaurants. He gets a little nervous but is getting better over time. Slow and steady is the name of the game – he needs patience and love and has come a very long way. Keller gets along well with other dogs, takes their cues to play, and knows when to stop. He was cat-tested at the shelter and did fine (his foster parents have not had him meet any cats during his stay with them). He has also done well with the children he has met on his walks. In general, he is a little timid when meeting new people (especially men) but warms up quickly. While he would benefit from gentle dog siblings who can teach him ‘how to dog’, Keller would also make a great solo pet. He does not need a fenced-in yard since he wants to be near his humans. If you're interested in making Keller a part of your family, contact your adoption coordinator. If you do not have an adoption coordinator, please complete an adoption application at www.freedomgermanshepherdrescue.org. Keller is being fostered near Durham.
