Hi, my name is Chicken!   I am a 8 month old female German Shepherd Husky mix weighing about 40 lbs! My foster mom estimates that I will be between 55-65 lbs when I’m all grown up! I have three sisters; Nugget, Pinky and Maggie, and we were all rescued as strays when we were little. Due to this, I was a little timid when I first met my foster family, but I realized it wasn’t so scary and felt safe enough to be my goofy self.   I had a little bit of a rough start to life. We’re not sure if I was born this way or if I was in an accident, but I had a partially fused vertebrae in my neck that affected my ability to walk. The doctor put me on anti-inflammatories and it seems to have helped me build scar tissue where the disc should be. Now I can walk much better and my pain is all gone! I’m a dog and kid friendly pup but I’m not so sure about cats because I’ve never met one. I oscillate between a couch potato and a medium energy dog. Sometimes when I’m out in the yard with my sisters and foster siblings I’d rather hunt June bugs and cicadas and  other times I like to try and volley myself over the other dogs or just roll around while they chase me. I have my moments where I like to snuggle, and have other moments where I like to be left alone to nap or stare off into space in peace. That being said, I could do well in a home with another dog, or with dog friendly kids, or by myself!   I do not have any leash training yet, but with the right encouragement I may put down the beetles for a crash course. It should be noted that I would be best suited wearing a harness to reduce the pressure a collar may put on my spine; per the vet recommendations! I can be very stubborn - those darn husky genetics - but be patient with me! I am still learning and will definitely make up for my stubbornness by making you laugh. I am housebroken and crate trained though, and do not require a fenced yard so there’s that. If you think you’re interested in helping this chicken find a permanent roost, please reach out to your adoption coordinator. If you do not yet have an adoption coordinator, please complete an adoption application at www.freedomgermanshepherdrescue.org.   I am being fostered near Raleigh, NC.
