Everybody meet Kai!   If you’re looking for a calm, lower drive, very affectionate German Shepherd, he’s your pup! Kai is 9 months old (approximately), 67 lbs, neutered, micro chipped, up-to-date on vaccines and preventatives, potty and crate trained, kid friendly, dog, cat, duck and chicken friendly. He is being fostered near Charlotte, NC. Kai is very sweet and affectionate. He loves to snuggle on the couch and being close to his people. Getting pets and scratches on his head is his favorite! Kai enjoys his time outside in the yard and finding sticks to run around with(even the large branches). He will absolutely tell you when he’s done outside by either sitting or laying down and staring at you or heading straight back to the door. He has learned to walk very nicely on leash, only using a slip lead. He has come to understand the pressure on/off of the slip lead. He is NOT reactive on the leash and does well passing by barking dogs, cars, people, loud noises etc. He does pay close attention to people but will move along when told. Kai’s foster sister is a 5yr old, 50lb German Shepherd dog and all he wants to do is play with her! Since he didn’t have much guidance on proper play, he can be a little bit much for a dog that doesn’t want to play 24/7. He is learning proper play and communication from her and from the help of his foster parents. Sometimes he needs to be held back to calm down a little before jumping back into play time! With more time and exposure he will be the perfect play companion for another dog! He does very well in his crate and sleeps through the night without a peep! On occasion, he will bark or cry for a minute when being put in but if you leave him be, he’ll stop!   Kai isn’t destructive or a big chewer. He does however nibble/bite on things for comfort. If he has a toy or blanket, he will nibble on it to self soothe. Kai is very responsive to subtle corrections. Minimal leash pressure or verbal cues may be necessary when giving a correction. He knows some commands like sit and come, but is still working on down and stay. The second you leave, he wants to come with you so it’s hard for him to stay put. He knows how to lay on the place cot but is still learning the verbal command to it!   He does extremely well with grooming. Nail trims, Dremel and brushing. Tools with noises are still a little scary for him but with more exposure and positive experiences, he’ll get past it!   Kai’s foster parents have implemented a lot of structure and training in his routine and think that Kai would greatly benefit from continued training to adjust best to his new environment! He is the sweetest boy and so well behaved (especially for a 9 month old!) and whomever his new family is will be extremely lucky to have him!!
