Learn more about the German Shepherd Dog.

Dani is a 4 year old, 72 pound female that was surrendered to an animal shelter in North Carolina, but we don't know why. She is very calm and is a great low-maintenance companion. She is housebroken and enjoys hanging out in her crate as often as possible. She knows basic commands but can work on fine-tuning them. She will learn anything you’d like if there is a treat at the other end. She walks so well on a leash you might forget that you are holding one. She also does well off-leash. She enjoys walks and doing anything as long as she can be by your side. She also loves taking a good nap. Dani enjoys car rides if she can stick her head out the window, but the feeling of a moving car is still a bit scary. When Dani first came to the rescue, everything was a bit difficult. The TV was odd, and so were doors or anything that moved, and she couldn’t figure out why. She is still terrified of men and will take a long time to determine if she is okay with them. When she sees a man, she will run and hide. She doesn't have a mean bone in her body. She enjoys just spending time with her foster mom and fur siblings. She takes a long time to warm up to new surroundings and people, likely due to the life she endured before being taken to the shelter. Once she realizes you are her person, she is determined not to let you go. She does a happy dance as soon as she sees you, but she is still very quiet. When she wants attention, she will gently put her paw(s) on you and let you know. She gets along well with small and large dogs of both genders, as well as chickens and ducks. Cats are undetermined, but she is so calm and gentle that she may not mind. She does prefer a quiet environment, so kids of an older age would be better, although she didn’t mind being around them at any age. She is so shy around new surroundings that her goofy personality takes a while to come out. However, her quirkiness and gentle heart make her the best friend anyone could have. If you are interested in adding Dani to your family, please reach out to your adoption coordinator. If you do not yet have any adoption coordinator, please complete an adoption application at www.freedomgsrescue.org. Dani is being fostered near Fayetteville.
