Learn more about the German Shepherd Dog. Hi, I'm Dutton. I’m a beautiful sable shepherd boy, just looking for my furever family.I am approximately 15 months old and around 45lbs. I’m on the skinny side and still need to gain some more weight. I wasn’t treated well before coming into rescue, so I was severely malnourished and my teeth were in rough shape. They were so worn down I had to have 14 teeth removed! You may think that would slow me down, but it hasn’t. I acted like nothing happened. My favorite thing to do is be with my humans, especially lounging around on the furniture, lying under the desk, and cuddling up in bed during the night. Truthfully, my real favorite thing to do is obsess over toys, which is why my foster humans keep them all hidden from me. I don't mind, though, you know, out of sight out of mind. I love heading to my crate to eat my meals in peace or just hanging out in my crate for a few hours if all the people in the house have to leave. I'm still working on being a little mouthy, but I am learning the ropes. My foster home has two other shepherds and I get along with them just fine. In fact, one of them plays with me everyday and we chase each other around the yard and wrestle. The other shepherd is my friend, but he is more serious and tries to keep me in line. Other dogs have come to visit and I have loved meeting each one of them, too. I hear there are these things called cats in the world, but I haven't ever seen one and if I did I have a feeling it wouldn't go well. Besides being awesome in my crate, friendly with other dogs and humans, and hanging with my humans all the time, I am potty trained and know how to use the doggie door. My foster family keeps telling me to go out all the time, though, just to make sure I remember. I love taking walks and going for runs. I run with the two other dogs about 4 days a week for 3-5 miles. I'm learning to “sit” and “come” and also how to calm down when I get over excited. This comes in handy when you come home and I haven't seen you for a while I'm a smart boy and at times a little stubborn. It’s just my young, active brain looking for things to do. Whoever wants to add me to their family will need to be active physically and willing to keep working on my training. I've been through a lot in my short life, but I’m a happy boy who will patiently wait for my perfect furever family to come along. I am being fostered near Raleigh.
