Luke Duke (both ears down) and his brother were found as strays in Cumberland county. The woman who found them took them to the shelter. The shelter then reached out to us and the rest is history! It is assumed they were on their own for a while because of how emaciated they were. The woman who found them said they did well around her cats, but they did want to chase them. After they were told they weren’t allowed to do that, they stopped. Luke, who's about a year old and weighs almost 70 pounds, has a lot of energy and enjoys running and playing, but he also enjoys a good nap and just playing with his toys. He loves his crate and looks forward to bed time so he can put himself to bed. He is still learning what is and what isn’t considered his toy. He still needs help working on his leash and car manners, but is an extremely quick learner. He learned how to sit and lay down really fast, and what “look” and “no” mean. He loves getting snacks and really loves meal time. When he sees his bowl, he will run to his crate and sit and wait for his food to be delivered. He does well off leash and is friendly with people and other animals, both at home and out in public. He does well around male and female dogs of all sizes, as well as ducks and chickens (supervised). He is good around children of all ages, but because he likes to jump when he’s excited (working on that) and can get scared easily, it’s best he goes to a home with children who know what proper boundaries are when it comes to animals. When new men approach he can get startled easy, until he knows they are friendly. Bo Duke, also about a year old and 70 pounds, is very calm and quiet. He just wants to lay next to you and look at you. He will get random bursts of zoomies, that are quickly followed by a good nap. He loves playing with his toys, but like his brother, he is still learning what are his toys and what aren’t. When he wants to be pet, he will sit next to you and rest his head on you to let you know. Sometimes this can get confused with him telling you he needs to go outside to potty. He’s still working on going potty outside only, but is learning quickly. He knows sit, lay down, come, look, and no. He is crate trained and like his brother, loves meal time and getting snacks. He too will sit in his crate like a gentleman and wait for his food to be delivered. Overall, both boys are very gentle and pick up quickly to routine and commands. They love one another and cuddle every chance they get. Bo and Luke will be adopted as a pair. They are being fostered near Fayetteville, NC. If you are interested in adopting Bo and Luke, please reach out to your adoption coordinator. If you do not yet have an adoption coordinator, please submit an adoption application on our website. www.freedomgermanshepherdrescue.org.
