This is Asher in one word: velcro!  Asher is a beautiful two year old shepherd boy. He loves his person and once he is bonded to you he will not let you out of his sight. Asher most enjoys going on long walks, lying next to his humans, being with his humans, pleasing his humans, rolling over and getting belly rubs in soft green grass and riding in the car. He will drive his head into your hands in hopes of getting the best head rubs and hugs that he can. He was an owner surrender to a rural shelter in eastern NC but that does not stop him from wanting to please his people every minute of the day and night! Asher is a 90 pound goofy puppy with a lot of energy.   He enjoys his daily training, walks, and playing with the tennis ball (he is a destroyer of tennis balls, he chews them like gum) or any toy for that matter. Asher is pretty quiet although he will bark a little bit every now and again to let you know he wants to play or that he has the zoomies. Asher is house trained and recently went to a board and train program. There he became a pro at basic commands like sit, lay down, heel, and place. He doesn't like being crated as he wants to go where his person is, so he would do best in a home where people aren’t gone all day. He can be mischievous at times, so he can’t be left out and about in the house when you aren’t home. He has a lot of energy and if that energy isn’t worked out he tends to get into stuff he is not supposed to, but when you’re home and with him he is a breeze. He sleeps through the night with his foster sister and foster mom in the bed with no problem and demands morning cuddle time! He is great around every dog he meets, big and small.   He does not necessarily need any dog siblings and would be fine as an only dog as long as his people give him lots of love and attention. Asher sometimes doesn’t know when to calm down but he handles corrections from other dogs just fine. Small children are probably not ideal as he still has puppy tendencies and at 90 pounds can easily knock little ones over since he does not realize his size. He is fine around dog savvy kids and loves attention from all humans. We aren’t sure about cats, but he will see a squirrel run by and completely ignore it- he only has eyes for his human. Asher would do best in a home where someone works from home or is home a lot and has a lot of land to let him run and burn his energy out or even someone who needs a new running buddy. Asher is being fostered in Wilmington, NC. If you are interested in Asher, reach out to your adoption coordinator.
