Hi! My name is Gunnar (Gunnie Bunnie), but my foster mom thinks my name should be Gator because when I am happy I snap my jaws like an alligator! Snap snap snap! It’s pretty cute! I am a lot of fun and I am so happy! I arrived at the shelter as a result of a misunderstanding, so my foster parents (and sister) went to meet me and thought I was a good bet. They were _right_ and are so happy they helped spring me! I am a Very Good Boy! I am pretty big (almost 80 pounds) and I am only about 18 months old so I am still a puppy and have lots of puppy energy and lots of puppy clumsiness. This week I have learned how to go down big steps - if you have a big set of wooden steps maybe a little carpet might be helpful for me because I like to go downstairs fast now that I know how! I am so smart! Get this!! Not only am I house trained, I can _poop_ on demand! I can sit really well and if you don’t give me the treats quickly enough I may sit two or three times. I am very easily corrected with a consistent “No!” I am both food _and_ attention motivated because I love my people, especially my foster mom, and I want to be with them all the time (do you know what a Velcro dog is?) and make them happy. I like to play with toys and chew on them (did you know there is a thing called a kong and they put treats inside them??), but I am not selfish and I share with my foster sister (who is the alpha and bosses me around). I also like to play with balls. My foster sister and I run and run and run! I would probably be great with another dog, and if I have a sibling I will be very active and want to play a lot. My foster parents think that I could also be an only dog, and that if there wasn’t another dog around I would be much calmer. But even though I like to play, I also like to just lie down near where you are and chill out. I’ve been to lots of Zoom meetings as a silent office mate! My foster parents don’t know if I have met kids but they think I would be really great around older kids. I really don’t realize how big I am and I’m still kind of puppy clumsy -- I would probably mow little kids right over, unintentionally, of course. My furry siblings should probably be dogs. I’m really not sure how I feel about cats - I don’t know if I am afraid of them or if I just don’t like them, but I can be very woofy and lungey around them. Other than that weirdness I am very gentle. If I have something I shouldn’t have, my foster parents can put their hands in my great big mouth and I don’t care. I let them have whatever they want, no struggle. I am an enthusiastic eater but I’m not a resource guarder at all. I have barked at the kitties and people at the door, and I have a magnificent voice! I am also very protective of my home and yard. I am very good in the car (my foster parents attach my harness to something so that I can’t wander while they are driving), and I am not too bad on a leash. I kind of meander but I don’t really pull. I don’t like when cars come by me but I am learning this cool command called “Over,” and I go over away from the road. My foster parents don’t think that I am a fence jumper (I got to chase some deer down the fence line last week!), but once I did rush my foster mom (because I love her so much) and I got out the front door. Because I am so exuberant about the deer and going out, my foster parents think I need a home with a six foot fence. I don’t know the “come” command just yet, but they managed to get me back! Whew! My foster parents are at home all the time with this Rona stuff and I really like their company! I do loooove my foster mom and complain sometimes when she leaves but I calm down quickly. I am not crate trained yet but we are working on it. I kind of don’t like to be restricted, but I am getting better about that, too. We are also working on some “no” things - I am so big that my mouth is just as high as the kitchen table, and that can sometimes be very tempting. I did take one of the action figures around here and had my way with it, but that’s technically a toy, isn’t it? My furrever family will need to be patient with me and teach me how to be more polite, but I am such a quick learner and I really want to please. My foster parents think that, besides that cat thing, there is nothing wrong with me that a little polishing and patience won’t fix. They think that I am someone’s dream dog. Are you part of my dream family? If you think you are my dream family, please contact your adoption coordinator. If you do not yet have an adoption coordinator, please complete an adoption application at www.freedomgermanshepherdrescue.org. I am being fostered near Raleigh.
