Learn more about the German Shepherd Dog. Hi my name is Stella! I’m a very sweet and laid back, 2.5-year-old girl. I was found as a stray so my background is unknown. I can be a bit shy at first meeting, but get over it fairly quickly. A few weeks after arriving at my foster home I had 4 seizures the day after I was spayed. We are not sure what triggered them but I am now on medication and have had no issues since. I actually look forward to taking my medication because my foster mom wraps it in cheese – and what dog doesn’t LOVE cheese?! I am still working on my manners. I did a little counter surfing and dumpster (trash can) diving for the first few days but I have been working on this and have only dove into the can once since then - it just all smells so good. I know some basic commands like sit and lay-down. I’m housebroken and mostly crate-trained. It takes me a few minutes to settle, but eventually I do. My foster family says I really no longer need the crate and that I am a really good girl when they are away. I just play with my fur sister and lay at the door until they get back. I play well with other dogs and my fur sister and I have lots of fun together. We do play little ruff at times, but love each other. My bark can be a little loud (high) when playing as I do get excited. I also love playing fetch but what German Shepherd doesn’t?! I walk great on a leash and am very good in the car. I do not get on the furniture and actually prefer to lay on the floor. Loud noises (beeping sounds, motorcycles, loud trucks and snoring) can make me pace if too loud - especially the loud snoring, which my foster mom says isn’t too bad when she gets the room to herself with just the dogs haha. I like meeting new people and will bond quickly with my family! I have only been around one child and it wasn’t for long but I seemed ok. I have been around cats, but to me they are just indoor squirrels, so I try to chase them. Once I get used to a space and people, I am a great companion and will follow you anywhere! Ideally, I want a backyard with a buddy to play with. I am being fostered near Raleigh. If you think you can offer me my furever home, please reach out to your adoption coordinator. If you do not have an adoption coordinator, please complete an adoption application at www.freedomgermanshepherdrescue.org
