Learn more about the German Shepherd Dog. ~~Hello everyone, my name is Remi! I’m two years old, lean, lanky, and lovely. Not to sound conceited but everyone keeps telling me what a pretty girl I am. I mean with my beautiful brown eyes, long snout, perfect ears, long tail and coat I’d say I’m a bit of a looker. I shed some but I think with good food and proper grooming it shouldn’t be a problem. I am a German Shepherd after all! When I first came to my foster home, I was a little nervous but who wouldn’t be going from being surrendered, the pound, the vet and to a new home?! I started adjusting very quickly and warming up to my new four-legged sisters, my toddler friend and moms. I did so well during my meet and greet - even better than their 13- year-old Shepherd. I really didn’t mind at all; I did some twirls and sniffs then I was good to go! After, I met their puppy and boy was she a little ball of energy. We have become great running buds and treat the yard as a racetrack! Sometimes we even play fight and of course I let her win because she’s so little, but she really gets me jazzed up and ready to go. She even tries to play with my tail but I know she’s just a baby so it doesn’t matter to me. When I finally get tired, I let her know very gently and that’s the end of that! You know what’s even better than a puppy? A toddler! He is so good with me but sometimes my foster mama must tell me not to lick his face. It's just that we are the same height and he giggles every time I see him, so I’m working on giving him a little more space especially in the mornings when I haven’t seen him allllll night. But I listen so good with just a simple no and go on about my day bringing a lot of joy wherever I go. If I’m not bringing smiles, I like to come up and nudge your hand for some pets and nose scratches to make you laugh. Oh my gosh do I loveeee nose scratches. I am very patient until you stop. I try to give you a little more nudging and then I’m all done - until the next time we meet again. Hopefully you will bring me some tasty treats. I love treats so much that I will surf your counters looking for them, although my foster parents keep telling me I'm not allowed to do that. Treats are just so good but I’m polite about taking them even from my toddler friend. I tend to gobble down food super-fast so maybe a slow feeder is the best for me! I don’t mind sharing if you can get a taste before it's gone! Oh yeah, I almost forgot: my foster mama is working with me to learn some basic commands but it’s a little strange since I’ve never been taught before, you know? As of right now I'm pretty good with sit, lay down, and drop it. However, I am still learning how to walk better on a leash. She says I would make an excellent dog for a family with maybe an almost three year old and above since loud noises frighten me. I heard a baby cry once and it scared me. I mean, who wouldn’t be frightened? I bet parents are nervous at first, too, when they hear their baby cry. I have clearly not been exposed to too much of the outside world because I really just want to be close to my people. I prefer cuddling with them at night and when I can't, I pace. I also become anxious when someone raises their hands up high, moves super-fast toward me and when I go to new places. On the inside, I think I'm afraid that my next family will abandon me like my last family did. As days go by, I am learning to trust my foster parents more. I am also working with a great trainer that is helping me learn that the outside world is not bad, how to be less frightened and that my next family will not dump me. I'm not a fan of my crate and have an occasional accident in the house. Hey, I really am someone’s best friend. I’m such a sweet girl and ready to find my place in someone’s home once I complete heartworm treatment in about a month. I am being fostered in Fayetteville.
