~~My husband and I are fostering Georgie in Davidson (near Charlotte), as of January 14, 2020.  Georgie is so much more beautiful in person than in her pictures. Her coat is a very luxurious, shiny black. She gets along fine with our female Miniature Schnauzer (although Lady is intimidated by Georgie's size).  Georgie is a wonderful GSD.  She is very gentle and hardly ever barks. She loves to get head pats.  She is house-trained, crate-trained, and leash-trained. She is a fast learner. We’ve had her out on many walks already. She is not aggressive toward passers by, on foot, bicycle, or other dogs on leash. That said, she will alert to squirrels (who wouldn't?) and to barking dogs that are at large in their yards but she is easily corrected.  She is a wonderful companion. She sheds very little.  She loves to sit around and be with us - no matter what we are doing.  She loves to walk but does not seem to want to run or jog.  She will fetch a stuffed animal and loves to make it squeak.  She is "low energy" but at 7 years old her "high energy" days may be behind her.  She does not seem to have any back or leg problems at all. She is a very good eater and is food motivated which makes training her very easy.  Although we were told she is crate trained, we found it better for her and us if she is allowed to roam freely.  She sleeps on a pillow in our room along with our Lady.  She sleeps through the night and doesn't fuss or move about until we wake up. My husband believes she is entranced by his piano playing.  I'm not sure about that but she does stop whatever she is doing and calmly lays down whenever he starts playing. While it is true that she lacks front teeth, it is not noticeable at all unless you lift her lips and her lack of teeth does not interfere with her eating. Several people, including friends and complete strangers have come our door since we joined our foster family and she is very calm about the door knocking and bell ringing.  She greets visitors with amiable curiosity and is not in the least bit hostile to them. If you are interested in making Georgie a member of your family, please reach out to your adoption coordinator.  If you do not yet have an adoption coordinator, please complete an adoption application at freedomgermanshepherdrescue.org.
