Learn more about the German Shepherd Dog. Four score and seven years ago… Wait! What am I thinking? This isn’t the Gettysburg Address; this is my opportunity to tell you about myself. Roughly eight months ago, a new legend was born: ME!! My name is Lincoln and I’m a little, 35 pound to be exact, German Shepherd mix with a BIG personality. I couldn’t be any more different from my namesake. Abraham Lincoln was the fifth president and I am the third dog that the rescue has taken in. President Lincoln was the tallest president and I’m one of the smallest shepherds my foster mom has ever met. She thinks it’s possible that I am so small because I had a lot of intestinal parasites when she first got me, but they’re all gone now. She likes to call me a pocket shepherd because I won’t get much bigger and I am more of a lap pet. I like to think of myself as FUN SIZED, though. She’s happy because I shed less than her other shepherds and I always hear her say that the smaller the dog, the smaller the poops. I hear my namesake was also a pretty honest guy. I hope this won’t stop you from adopting me, but I cannot tell a lie: I did hard time in doggie jail. I was picked up for loitering. What was I supposed to do? I didn’t have a home of my own so I was left to wander the streets foraging for food, water and shelter. My good behavior prompted the warden to reach out to Freedom German Shepherd Rescue. The volunteers saw my potential and here I am. Foster mom says we still have to work on my manners because I LOVE food and will try to knock it out of her hand or steal it off the table when she’s not looking. I am a little grabby with treats but am NOT food aggressive with other dogs. From what I heard, President Lincoln didn’t like the theater. I think I’m a rock star because when I get a little lonely, I will sing loud and proud. It’s nothing special, just my version of “This Little Light of Mine”. Somehow my foster mom knows when I’m almost done because she mists my face with water. There is one thing that that former president and I have in common: I love all people. I also love playing with all other dogs, large and small, am housebroken and am getting better about going into my crate. My foster mom thinks I would do best in a home with another playful dog to help me get out my puppy energy. If you think you can give me by best life to prevent me from ending up in the slammer again, please complete an adoption application. I am being fostered near Fayetteville, NC.
