Learn more about the German Shepherd Dog. Hello! My name is Liberty. I am a three-year-old, 65-pound beautiful girl. I am a very special because I am Freedom German Shepherd Rescue’s first dog. I am also my foster parents' first foster dog. Lots of firsts! Let me tell you a little about me. I enjoy going anywhere and everywhere with my humans and am great on car rides. I like chasing bugs and sucking my tail but I LOVE playing. I have three fur foster siblings: two who are around the same size as me and one that is a chihuahua mix. I love playing with the boys - the ones that are my size. We wrestle and rough house all the time. I have tried to play with the small one, but she just doesn’t like me. I don’t understand why because I like her. I am not giving up, though, because I want to be friends with her. I know how to respect another dog's space but also know how to get another dog to respect mine. I love going for walks and I walk on a leash very well. I don’t have a fence at my foster home, so my foster mom takes me for a mile long walk each morning and a two to three mile walk every night. I know our usual route well so when my foster mom tries to change the route up on me, I must remind her that I know where to go. I love having my own space. I like to sleep and eat in my crate, or my "house" as my foster parents call it. I love food and treats. I have a pretty good nose, so I know when you have treats around and I will sniff them out. I take treats from my foster parents very gently because I don’t want to accidentally bite their fingers. I love to be close to my people - even if it is curling up on the floor by their feet while they work, laying on the couch while they watch TV or helping in the kitchen because I have learned that is where they keep the food. My foster mom is still helping me learn manners. When I am playing with my foster brothers, I can get a bit rough and loud. I don’t realize my size and strength, so I don’t think being around small kids would be a good idea. However, I would love to have some older human siblings to play tug of war and ball with. I am very cautious of new people coming around but I warm up quickly once I realize that they are not a threat to me or my humans. Once I warm up, I can get attached pretty easily - some call me a "Velcro dog". Although I'm quite clumsy, I'm pretty cool off leash and keep a close eye on my humans, not allowing them to get too far out of sight. I enjoy attention and am able to learn new tricks quickly with positive reinforcement and treats! I learned from the vet recently that I have some common GSD hip issues. Don't worry though! While I won't be a star athlete, I'd love to be with a low to moderately active family. I take joint supplements every day (they taste like treats to me) and will occasionally need anti-inflammatory medicine if I'm feeling a little stiff. To keep me at my best, I will need to continue taking joint supplements once I reach my furever home. Every once in a while these issues make me a little clumsy. No big deal though, I just brush it off and keep on going. Nothing is going to hold me back from being my normal gorgeous self. I am a quick learner but will need someone who is willing to continue to work with me so I can be the best I can be. Who doesn’t want to be the best? I know I do! I am just a happy, loving girl who is so very grateful for the second chance that Freedom German Shepherd Rescue gave me. While I love my foster family, I really want a family to call my own. Do you think that I am a good fit for your family? If so, and you live in NC, please submit an adoption application. I would love to meet you! I am currently being fostered near Raleigh, NC. Liberty: Housebroken, crate trained and dog friendly.
